Oh man. That's gotta rank right up there with, "yes, officer, I know those drugs were in my pocket but they're not mine." Smile

It will be interesting to see how Sumlin deals with this.. With no alleged physical contact or assault , how will he respond after seeing what's happened at Baylor

We'd all be well advised to remember that "accused" and "convicted" are two very different things.

^ two different tutors for the athletic program sounds pretty damning.

We'll see how this goes but "not convicted" and "innocent" aren't always the same thing either.

From A&M released statement

Quote:

Kirk Merritt, a Texas A&M football player, is alleged to have committed two offenses on Oct. 24 and Oct. 25, 2016. On Oct. 25, the athletics department was notified of the accusations as well as the Title IX Office and the Office of the Dean of Student Life. On Oct. 28, after receiving the police report, Coach Kevin Sumlin immediately suspended Merritt from all football activities. On Nov. 8, Merritt was arrested and the athletics department suspended Merritt indefinitely per athletics department policy.

The university conduct process concluded on Jan. 20. Feb. 1, Merritt’s suspension was lifted by the athletics department after the university action. Merritt will not participate in the spring game on Apr. 8.

Agalyst:

I agree ... it doesn't look good. And even if one buys the scenarios as outlined by his attorney, it was incredibly clueless behavior on his part.

So meritt was originally suspended from all football activities, but has since been reinstated. My question is why, if 2 different tutors said he pulled out his privates in front of them, would we reinstate him. One person, then I can see it may be something that we need to go through the system. But 2 different people? Sure, he did not physically assault anybody, but he obviously still has problems.

I had jock itch once. I was in the navy at the time. The last thing I wanted to do was yank it out and show some young girl. hell, I did not even want to show the doc.

Come on man. If this were another student we wouldn't have ever heard about it and no action could be taken until the legal process was complete.

You are just looking to hate. Baylorish would be denying that it ever happened and calling the tutors liars.

"It" being disorderly conduct and not indecent exposure.

"It" still to be proven in a court of law.

"It" having been examined and dismissed by a university council review.

The point being: let the legal process play out. Once that outcome has taken place, there will be ample time to formulate and execute appropriate action ... based on those findings.

I will concede this: the more I read, the more predisposed I am to dismissing the young man from the team ... IF reports like this are ultimately proven accurate.

At the same time, I've got my own ideas about Brent Z's agenda ... in pretty much everything he writes.

Again, 2 separate incidents completely unrelated to each other.

If he indeed had jock itch there should be some doctors paper trail.

The incidents, as described in goodsons link above are pretty bad. First, if you have to scratch your privates who goes into their clothing to do so in front of a girl tutor? And even if you did, who does not realize your privates are not sticking out the top? Second time, why, if you have jock itch, would you need, or want, to pull your shorts down and hold your privates in front of a female tutor? I am simply looking at the accusations as stated and it makes no sense. I have had jock itch, never did I feel the need to expose myself for relief.

By all accounts there was no assault. And I have no idea what kind of person Merritt is nor do I know his history. I don't know what the conversation was during the incidents. But for the girl to be balling and having trouble talking it seems that there had to be something amiss. You would think if some guy simply had his privates sticking out the top of his shorts it would not elicit her reaction of balling and having difficulty speaking. I assume there is more to this. My wife had a guy do something similar while in college and she told him he was an idiot and reported him. She did not cry and become emotionally distraught about it. So I beleive we don't yet know all there is.

In the end, jock itch is a flimsy excuse, at best, for what was described.

Sounds like he was not prepared to be confronted and came up with a rash explanation.
