This looks like a blessing for Garrett, but how could you possibly screw this up?

Now, this is a hilarious excerpt from that article (re the Browns passing on Myles for a QB from North Carolina):

This makes as much sense as shopping for a car and passing on a new Bentley for a used Honda with flat tires at the same price.

LOL!!! Laughing

Not to mention that the Browns have Brock Osweiler and RGIII on the roster already. If either of those guys could reclaim their past highest level of performance, the Browns would be "more than okay" at QB.

The Cleveland Browns' top management may have not decided which was to go with the Browns' No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, but Coach Hue Jackson is convinced on his recommendation for the selection.

Cleveland.com reports that Jackson wants to draft former Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett.

These reports are coming at the same time that others are reporting that the Browns are leaning to former North Carolina quarter Mitch Trubisky.

Mary Kay Cabot reports that Jackson has endorsed Garrett because he wants a game-changer with the pick.

What a shock. Shocked

A coach wants a player. d'oh!

The suits might not have a clue... Think

If the browns pass on garrett for trubisky then they deserve the next few decades of being completely meaningless. It is almost as if they really are trying to do the opposite of what they know they should do if winning is their goal.

And don't get me wrong, if it means something better for garrett, then more power to garrett. I am simply amazed at the utter incompetence the browns seem to show over the years.

Cleveland has such a great history of developing young quarterbacks, I don't see what the issue is. Very Happy

This seems far more likely than the Browns opting for Trubisky over Myles.

Kelly, for a normal organization, I agree with you.

But this is the Browns under truck stop management. And the NFL ain't truck stops to manage...

Your agreement with Kyper would not require one correct decision, it would require two good decisions. In a row. In a hurry.

I would think it is not impossible...but you gotta admit the odds get a bit longer... Laughing

Good point about college D players having to be on the field so much more than the pros. Piper forgot that MG played hurt a lot, which might have made it appear he let up a little sometimes. These "experts" like Kiper also forget that they actually call holding in the league which automatically makes MG an even better player. Angel

The Browns are gonna do what the Browns are gonna do and it is in their DNA to FUBAR this one to the max.

If they wee truly smart, they'd be listening to offers to acquire multiple picks. Myles will excel wherever he goes ... but the Browns' roster would benefit from multiple additions rather than from a single player. Even a high impact player like Myles.

I hear you but they have the 1 and 12 picks, 5 of the first 65 picks and 11 overall. They are well positioned already to get elite talent and some depth. I'd take Myles and hope Mahomes or the Nd Qb were there at 12.

A fair point, kellypo. Still, I can't help but think of the Herschel Walker trade Jimmy Johnson made when he first got to the Dallas Cowboys.

Then again, they need established talent now, not wait for the crop of super-rookies to get settled in. In other words, they need a blend of old and new.

I know my response is all over the map, which probably points to the ineptness of their management/ownership. With that common denominator still in the mix REGARDLESS of who the Browns draft or trade for, I'm not sure there's any good formula for obtaining a winning program. It's akin to throwing good money after bad.

To your point Cotton79

It does seem to me like the Browns are improving as an organization. Still got a long way to go but they have to start somewhere. They are no worse than the Cavs were back in the day.

If you were Jerry Jones, would you offer Zack Martin for the Number One Pick (and, consequently, the opportunity to select Myles Garrett)?

Think

If you were the Cleveland GM, would you say yes to that offer -- or would you demand the Cowboys' #1 pick as well)?

Think

Interesting read, kellypo. Indeed, MLB and the NBA's development leagues are an advantage to those sports; the NFL is exposed in having none. I didn't know the particulars of what Haslam was trying to do in the management office, but I'm glad to see my thought wasn't too far out in left field. Wink

I don't get the love for Trubisky. He has horrible mechanics and a suspect arm. Watson should be the first QB taken. He has the best mechanics by far. I have read alot of reviews who question Watson's size, but the combine shows that they don't know what they are talking about. In fact, watching the combine Watson looked like he was a little taller than both Trubisky and Mahonnes.

If Watson isn't the first QB taken, every GM/owner who takes someone else at QB needs to be enrolled in the league's substance abuse program immediately.

Cool

I am so torn by the Browns 1st pick. As an Aggie I am proud that one our own was taken #1 in the NFL draft. At the same time I hate to see a potential future Hall of Fame player go to such a putrid franchise.

How many 1st round picks has this organization ruined. Being a DE he can survive better thru his rookie contract & jump to another team....as opposed to a QB that gets punished & abused for 3 or 4 years.....with no supporting staff from either the team, the coaches & front office.
