If the home plate umpire can't tell the difference between a ball and a strike on the left side of the plate tonight we aren't going to have a very good first game.

Through two innings, the Aggies are getting hosed by the umpire calling balls as strikes and the announcers are pretty much acknowledging that they are not over the plate--on one pitch after another...saying things like the umpire is "helping" out...the catcher is "helping out"...

Just wish we could play a game in the SEC and get good, consistent calls both ways in accordance with the rules of the game...in baseball, basketball or football...and let the players decide the game on the field/court.

I wouldn't have a problem if we were getting the call as well. But we're not.

That was my point too..."consistent"

And NOT GETTING THOSE CALLS...directly played into the Arkansas big innings (4 runs and 5 runs) as we had pitches that were actually better on the left side of the plate that were called balls to extend bats and ultimately allowed batters that should have been out to walk or get hits...

I know it is baseball...but that doesn't keep it from being frustrating...

It doesn't take many missed calls each way to make a big difference in some games...and we have definitely experienced it this year in a way that has hurt...

Oh well Whistle Whistle Whistle

Ags lose game 2 3-1.

Suddenly, no one can play RF for us.

Unless we go very deep, like the title game, in the SEC tourney, we will be traveling elsewhere in post season.

And that is if we can win out, in my opinion.

Going anywhere else is certainly the hard way. But if we do get the #16 seed, then we may match up with Florida in the Super...at Florida. And that is probably not the easy way to get to Omaha.

We also don't want to meet Oregon State or Stanford in a super.

If we won a regional and we didn't meet up with the Big 3 above, I would like our chances to go to Omaha. I wouldn't bet anything (esp. with Goodson), but I would like out chances...provided this isn't a prolonged funk or slump...But I said Win the Regional... Think

I don't know how the seeding works for the SEC tourney. We still could finish as high as 3rd or as low as 6th in the West.

Most polls have 4 teams in top 16, UF, Ol' Miss, Ark., & Georgia. Kentucky is close as are we for top 16. There are several teams in play, IMO for the last 4-6 seeds.

I agree, it would be nice to avoid UF in the Supers, unless we find our strokes at the plate. And a RF.

Shewmake on shelf today w/sore wrist. Janca at SS, drops a semi tough throw from Kolek that leads to unearned run.

Frizzel w/leadoff double, we can't get him home.

I didn't see any of this series, but I lean toward this team just being a bit better than average at about the 66th percentile.

We are short of true outfielders, our pitching staff has regressed this year, hitting with runners in scoring position is poor and fielding is not average.

Any other league and we would still be fighting for the title most likely.

Anything can happen going forward, but I wouldn't waste money betting for the guys...

...but I am still yelling for 'em... Gig 'em

Well, you're close on your thoughts.

RF has become the Bermuda Triangle for us. We can't seem to find a body for that spot.

We have the 2nd best ERA in the league prior to Sunday's game. But our money guys last year have been off a bit this year. Chafin & Sherrod cost themselves $$$ by coming back & being less effective to date this year.

We're mid-pack on BA, 10th on fielding %(4 E's today). But we were 1 fror 27 RISP before finally scoring some runs today. That is a killer.

Stats are here:
http://a.espncdn.com/sec/baseball/2018/SEC%20Baseball%20Overall%20Stats.pdf

We just need to get back to fundamental, and fun, baseball. As my friend Darryl Hamilton, God rest his soul, would tell our boys a couple of years ago: Relax! It's just a game!"

This sums up Rob Childress coached teams against solid opponents. Been this way for 12 years.

4 errors
1-for-7 with two outs
3-for-33 with runners in scoring position in series

If Rob were at the plate every time, we would have been 0 for 33 with RISP! Laughing Laughing Laughing
