Hires Andrea Gaston from USC. She has led the Trojans to three NCAA Championships
and just missed on a couple of others.
I like that our AD is making all sports a priority.

Not all sports -- at least yet. See Basketball and baseball. No chance to compete for a national title with either of the current head coaches.

Excellent hires in football and women's golf give hope.

Aw shucks, some things take time, SA68AG.

It took Jimbo a while to make his mind up and "Come on down". We Don't know exactly how long...and I believe he did due diligence and made a decision pretty fast.

There are several things we Don't know:

We have no idea of what Woodward is thinking and how/whom/when he wants to make any changes.

We have no idea on what kind of timetable for money/changes for which he has been tasked.

Let's just pretend we are all so ready for a change to be made in our
tiddlywink team. What if he has contacted coach A that has won 3 ncaa championships in a row and his agent has said NO?

What if the real powers that be say hold on for another year for lower buyout...or Don't hire coach B until after first of year to save $3 million buyout from his end.

What if coaches C-F don't fit our coaching needs in Scott's mind.

Our perfect coach may not want to come, may not be available, family may not want to come yet/ever.

I think that Scott is like both a duck and an iceberg. Calm and majestic on the surface, but paddling like heck and massively dangerous beneath the water.

Just because we know nothing does not mean he is not concerned, working or making progress.

As a fatter of mact, I think it better serves the purpose to find out in an announcement after negotiations are completed and something is signed...

Next year might be better timing for all parties on that tiddlywink hire...

I had to dig out my Bosco Decoder Ring, but I think I've figured out what tiddlywinks is code for.

The Ovaltine decoder rings were faster and more accurate...

Agdad,

You sure got colorful in your response, but I agree fully with your gist. There are myriad influences and factors that Scott Woodward faces in managing the progress in each of our sports. Plus, there are plenty of factors that he just can't control, not the least of which is "timing," as you point out. All the stars could line-up correctly save for one, but that's all it takes to kill a deal... one lone maverick sticky-point putting the kibosh on the deal. Does it make it a bad deal? No. Does it make Scott Woodward an ineffective oaf for not making it happen? On that lone point, no. But, his performance is and will be judged over a continuum of time; in essence, his body of work will dictate his success. He is too new in the job to extensively consider any "body of work" just yet, but his hire of Jimbo sure buys him a lot of positive chits and brownie points. He is definitely off to a good start. And now, women's golf with Andrea Gaston. "Wow!Shocked Cool Big Grin " is the appropriate response here. Gig 'em

Yes, we want to see improvement in men's baseball and basketball. I suspect timing is a key element here, but there are most likely a host of elements at play. Mostly, I have no doubt the Scott is quietly doing the hard work in those treacherous, iceberg-laden undertows you describe to get us where we want to go.

Patience.

Even less is known about our new volleyball coach, but she too has some championship pelts under her guidance as an assistant coach.

It appears the AD has a pretty good idea so far as to what he might want to see in common in the resumes of the coaches he is hiring--at least for the time being.

Very salient observation. Past performance is no guarantee of future results but I li,e the attitude. Fightin Texas Aggies will be competitive across the board. 👍

Amateurs. Captain Midnight or go home. Shazam!!!

Good hire for women's golf. Poor recruiting the past few years put us in a hole competitively. Hopefully the turnaround will be quick.

I love the fact that she didn't shy away from acknowledging the importance of her relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

That probably isn't embraced as broadly in Southern California as in Aggieland and Texas -- the heart of the Bible Belt.

She mentioned several things of interest in the Gabe Bock interview:

Commute to work not nearly as long everyday to the office.

Close proximity to MD Anderson.

Kept mentioning that we have everything here...facilities, support of administration, recruiting area... She specifically mentioned the building/quality of the facilities across the tracks (west campus).

(The money that the SEC is generating appears to spread across the entire athletic departments. In June, 2015, Melissa Luellen, who had spent the past 13 years as the women's golf coach at Arizona State and led the program to an NCAA title in 2009, was named the head coach at Auburn.Expect to see this continue is the SEC...)

She mentioned that after 22 years, the bout with cancer and helping her father with dementia in the year before cancer struck, that it was time she started thinking a bit more about herself and her situation.

So, I expect she got a nice raise. she no longer has the California state income taxes and other taxes. (She may not be aware of Texas property taxes, however...)

That $450,000 house out there is $250,000 here. Pool guys and yard guy are a lot less expensive. Gas is cheaper. Groceries are cheaper.

Lots of very young girls on her team in California. Who knows?

Avg. property tax rate in CA is about 0.8%. I'm guessing in TX it's 1.94% (based on Google).

So if her house in CA was $500K - that would be $4000 in taxes. If her house in TX is $250K - the property taxes would d be $4850.

Based on reports, she was making over $150K @ USC which means she would've paid at least $14K in personal income tax (9.3%).

The difference between property taxes would be more than easily offset by the lack of person income tax. Plus, reports suggest she's going to be paid at least $200K, +50K a year in salary alone.

I own an investment home in CS. My 2018 tax rate is 2.3805%.

1.39% is College Station ISD school tax.

Yes, her quality of living just skyrocketed (in so many ways)...but it is further to a Disney Park...

Well, they do have a "bemusement park" on the Farty Acres.

So ... there's that.
