Tony Kemp to pinch-hit for Jake and his .192 BA.

And Kemp strikes out.

Gee, that's four in a row! Fresno ain't looking good tonight in the AL West.

Bregman does it again for us, this time on a soft tap in front of the plate that scores Tucker, who had singled after Reddick led off with a walk and went to 3rd on Tucker's base hit into RF. Kemp then tapped a bleeder to SS, who couldn't make a play for an out. After a Springer fly ball set up Bregman's game-winning tap out front of the plate, Oakland could not make the tag on Alex, so Lucroy threw it down to 1B but threw it away into RF, enabling Tucker to score the winning run from 2B.

Tucker broke out with two hits and three runs scored, including the huge hit to RF in the B11 to send Reddick to 3B with nobody out.

Bottom line .... the Astros escape!

Final .... Houston 6, Oakland 5.

We got problems in the pen, though, boys!

FWIW, the Bombers lost to the forlorn Orioles again tonight in the B9, 6-5, and Seattle is down by five to LAA after six.

The report on Marwin is day-to-day, basically good news after he was spiked on his left wrist on an attempted A's steal and tag at 2B very early in the game.

The injury update on Correa was not near as encouraging. We probably won't see CC until after the all-star break.

At Fenway at 6 pm, it's Bartolo Colon for the Rangers vs. Chris Sale for the Red Sox.

In the Box, Houston will go with Lance vs. part-time A's starter, Chris Bassitt.

Uhhhh .... Hinch didn't surrender the three consecutive hard singles that started that 9th-inning fiasco! Giles must have snakes in his head.

All things considered, this is a pretty big deal. I hope he goes to Fresno and learns how to get movement on his heater and some bite on his slider. An effective change-up like Devo's wouldn't hurt either. Everything Giles throws is hard .... and flat.

Looks to me like we'll be making a deal for a strong reliever before the trade deadline. Both Giles and Harris are utterly uncertain for the trek to and through the post-season. The farm system is still absolutely loaded with prospect talent who've been carrying great numbers all season. Both Fresno and Corpus won their 1st halves in the PCL and the TXL, and are leading again in the 2nd half. Point being, we've got prospects that we'll most probably never need to offer for the right pitcher.

I hope Perez gets a chance to become a contributor in the late innings. If that can work out well, the Astros can avoid pillaging their two top farm clubs in order to win a bidding war for lefty Zach Britton. If another solid bullpen righty can't be brought in for a reasonable price, then keep an eye on a couple of youthful Fresno stalwarts, Cy Sneed from Dallas Baptist, the 6'8" Brock Dykxhorn, and righty Rogelio Armenteros (7-0, 3.28).

Apart from relief pitching issues, the club is also apparently exploring things with the Marlins to possibly make a deal for catcher, JT Realmuto. An Okla native, Realmuto is hitting .317 this season and is a .285 career hitter since 2014. He's had double-figure HRs and at least 20 doubles every full year since he's been in The Show.

I'd do the deal for Realmuto. We have managed to get by w/the C spot being almost vacant when it come to a bat. McCann is missed but I'm afraid he may be wearing out.

Relief pitchers have short memories, or they need to. And sometimes the manager makes the wrong move. Why didn't AJ stick w/Smith w/a 4 run lead? Who knows?

I'm more concerned w/the bats. Altuve seems to be trying to do too much IMO, needs to slow down at the plate. It's even messing with his fielding.

Quality pitching, an 11-hit attack and some long-ball power from Reddick, Gattis and White, as well. The scorching-hot Bregman on base three more times again today. A lopsided win is the result. As a bonus, The Kid got to finish up with a clean IP in the T9. Devo also throws two clean IPs after his collapse against Oakland.

Cole finally wins his 10th (10-2), after getting jobbed a couple of times by the pen or the bats. He had some control and pitch-count issues, but yielded only three hits and fanned eight over his 5.2 IPs.
