MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said last night MLB is exploring expanding by two teams and mentioned Portland, Nashville, Charlotte & Vegas as four cities in US ready for teams.

If the two teams were Vegas and Portland would this move Houston out of the AL West and into a "Central" division?

Does this cause a realignment of 4 teams in 4 divisions for each league?

Assuming AL gets the two teams:
WEST
SEA
OAK
LAA
PDX/LAS (not both only one per league)

NEW CENTRAL WEST
HOU
MIN
TEX
KCR

CENTRAL
CWS
DET
CLE
TOR

EAST
NYY
BOS
TAM
BAL

The NL West seems harder to chop up into 4 divisions geographically.

What do you think?

Somebody mentioned Montreal and Vancouver as well, so who knows how the regional deck might get shuffled? Heck, if we're looking at adding a Canadian city, I'd speculate that Mexico might be able to fill a ballpark or two.

Why would you assume the AL would get both?

If so, someone is moving to the NL. Or back if it was the Astros.

If the new franchise west is in the AL, then yes the Astros would be the logical move to the Central along w/Texas, KC, and I could see Tampa Bay moved to the new Central.

That was last year. I can't imagine Montreal getting another go. Attendance at the O was horrible their last few years.

I'd think that the MLB commissioner wouldn't leave off any serious contenders.

I saw a radical idea posted by SI last year that suggested 4 8 team divisions and break up the AL/NL construct. That proposal would make a PDX/LAS structure more difficult, but a Nashville/CLT and PDX/LAS would fit nicely.

The reason why Canadian teams have a tougher go is because they have to pay players in dollars. A Mexican team would likely require a lot of subsidy even in Mexico City with its large population. And then of course there is the pollution and crime. Muy mal.
